Luxury Vinyl Tile Buying Guide
Overview:
Tile can be elegant, highly durable, and can be a beautiful choice for any home. Most tile is highly resistant to moisture and wear, so it is often used in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, entryways, and other areas that may be subjected to moisture and heavy use. Tile is made from ceramic, porcelain, or stone, and can last for the lifetime of your home.
Basic Types
• Standard Clay, Terra Cotta: Ceramic tile may have glazes applied for design and color, or they may be raw ceramic tile. Ceramic tile comes in a wide variety of styles from across the globe, and come in a multitude of finishes, shapes and sizes. From solid glossy colors to artistic patterns, ceramic tile is one of the most versatile flooring design elements available.
• Porcelain: Porcelain outperforms standard clay in durability and looks. Porcelain has a very low water absorption rate, is very strong, and resists abrasion. It also comes in a wide variety of colors, textures, and finishes.
• Stone Tile: Stone tiles are made from a variety of natural stone materials including granite, marble, slate and limestone. From glossy polished surfaces to matte textures, stone offers attractive options for any home environment. Granite provides the most heavy-duty application where sandstone can be more brittle with other materials falling in between.
